MEGEM’S Boy and Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan made the long trek to Coonamble for yesterday’s $15,000 Banjo Club Cannonball (1100m) worthwhile when they blitzed the opposition for an eight-length win.
Tamworth apprentice Tim Bell gained the ride on the three-year-old gelding son of Danehill Dancer to continue his brilliant season.
It was part of a big day for the Coonamble Jockey Club an heading into what will be a huge week for the Hunter and North West Racing
Association.
The HNWRA stages three TAB meetings this week, starting with today’s 10-race program at Gunnedah, continuing with Wednesday’s additional Armidale meeting and finishing with Friday’s Moree TAB meeting.
Moree Race Club saddles up for its first TAB meeting for 2009 which will distribute $72,000 in prizemoney.
Nominations for the Moree meeting close 11am today along with nominations for Saturday’s Nyngan picnics.
Moree rider Jimmy Bryans is preparing to head westward to Nyngan fresh from a successful Kenway and Clark Golden Triangle Carnival at Moree, Mallawa and Talmoi.
He is expecting a full book of five rides including Faux Pas in the 1250m Duck Creek Picnic Cup for Garry Bignell.
“Garry rang last week and said he would have four rides for me for sure and would get me a ride in the short maiden as well,” Bryans said.
The jockey, who also expects to ride at the July 18 Wean picnics, is on a roll after a successful Golden Triangle.
“It was a really good carnival, especially the Garah picnics,” Bryans said.
“They really look after the jockeys out there. They bumped the travelling allowances for jockeys up to $150, which really helps.
“There are people like Rob Anderson who takes eight hours to get to the meeting, so that extra money really helps with expenses,” he said.
