BEAU Lamond followed on his winning the Central North best and fairest award by winning his club’s first grade best and fairest honour but may have played his last game for the Moree Bulls.

Moree president Dave Onus said Lamond was returning to the Sunshine Coast to work in the family fencing business.

“Beau’s going to be a big loss for us,” Onus said this week after the club held its annual presentation night at the Weebollabolla Oval clubhouse last Friday night.

“He had a great year. He won the club’s first grade best and fairest, the Sid Boydell Memorial Trophy.”

About 80 people turned out for the annual presentation night.

Ben Colley was second to Lamond in the B&F with Heath Riggs and Michael Grant equal third. Riggs was also named the most dedicated first grader.

Todd Brannan won the Bernie Fing memorial trophy for second grade’s best and fairest, edging out Ben Loeve.

Murray Amos was most improved and David Warburton most dedicated second grader.

Sandy Bailey topped the Under 19 Best and Fairest, winning the Clem Boland Memorial Trophy from Ben Legg and Tim Boland. Joran Barratt was the most dedicated.

Third grade’s most dedicated award went to Michael Davison with Mitchell Cosgrove and James Rowe sharing the Jack Amos Award.

Jono Wilson won the Kalua Cup for the best new player to the club and Andrew Quinn was named best team man in all grades.

Justin Barnes won the Good Bloke Award, Jono Wilson the Goose of the Year and Kay Brasell the Clubperson of the Year.

Moree might be looking for some new first grade coaches as well, said Onus, when the club stages its annual general meeting in December.

Liam McCormick and Peter Copeman shared the job this year but Copeman is happy to step down and help out in other areas while McCormick, who is recovering from a neck injury, may play depending on a doctor’s clearance and add to his 95 club games.

Second grade could also have a new mentor with this season’s co-coaches Andrew Quinn and Tim Richards also in doubt.

While the 19s struggled for numbers this season, Onus said the prospects for the 17s are bright.

Moree Junior Rugby Club president Matt Haddad’s rugby recruitment netted around 30 under 15s last year and the signs are positive for a strong 17s in 2009.
