Tumbling wickets make batting first a dubious call

ATTUNGA got the better of Post Office Hotel in their Manilla grand final rematch at Chaffey Park on Saturday with Chris Dobson’s hat-trick one of the highlights.

In the other game, Bowling Club was too good for RSL with Steve Pleffer and Stephen Moore leading Bowlo to a good win at Brady Park.

Pleffer hit 61 and Moore 54 in Bowlo’s total of 197.

Sam Mulligan also helped out with 38.

Russell Gardner ensured the total was kept under 200 though with a good spell of

4-14.

One of a number of RSL youngsters, Alex Barton also claimed 3-24.

Pleffer and Moore then switched bat for ball and did some more damage.

Pleffer took 3-24 and Moore 3-19 as RSL folded for 92.

As with the batting Mulligan also chimed in with the ball with 2-20.

Richard Johnston was on a losing side but managed to hit more than half of RSL’s runs with 47.

The only other batsmen to reach double figures was Sam Buffett with 13.

“It’s good to get back in the winner’s circle again,” Pleffer said.

“We’ve had a better start to this season than we did last season.

“We’re just trying to get the team together again.

“We play PO (next week) so that will be very tough against the premiers.”

Post Office will be coming off a loss after it misjudged a damp wicket and chose to have a bat against Attunga.

It proved costly with Attunga’s bowlers profiting.

Dobson picked up a hat-trick in his first over and finished with 4-6 from three overs.

Brian Watson also bowled well with 2-18 while Chase Crough bagged 2-27.

Ben Edwards was the only PO bat to offer much with 37 while Dave Weekes (14), Richard Ingram (11) and Mal Collier) made starts.

Attunga also found the going tough in the reply but had enough batting reserves to win it by three wickets.

Crough top-scored in the chase with 26, Corey Abra made 20, Dobson added 13 and Matt McGuire 11 as Attunga reached the small target in 18 overs.

Edwards capped a good day for him personally with 4-36 but his side was on the wrong end of the result.
