Placing faith in youth

GUNNEDAH’S Second XI hopes it can ensure at least one win over Tamworth opposition in tomorrow’s double-header.

The seconds face Tamworth Blue at Dick Edwards Oval and its a chance for a rare win over

Tamworth.

“We can only hope,” Gunnedah captain Darrin Cameron said.

“We’d love to get at least one over Tamworth and Al Austin is captaining them so it’d be good to get one over him too.

“It’ll be a young side too which will be good.”

The Gunnedah side certainly is young.

The message to those young players from the skipper is to just do their best.

Vinnie Winsor is another more experienced player and Sam Doubleday has played plenty of first XI games so they will lead the side.

“He’s my right hand man, Vin,” Cameron said.

“It’ll be good to have us three there to guide the younger blokes.

“The young blokes have to realise they don’t have to go out an impress anyone.

“They’ve just got to play their best and that’s all anyone can do.

“They’re not playing to be picked for Australia.

“If they go out and try their best and give me 100 per cent I’ll be happy.”

They have some talent too.

Wade Ryan is one to watch in the batting lineup.

“He’s a very handy left hand bat,” Cameron said.

“He’ll open the batting most likely.”

And in the bowling Ben Irwin is in good form at club level.

“He was brilliant last Saturday, took 6-16,” Cameron said.

“Jack Dawson is a good young bowler too.

“I’d say they’ll be opening the bowling, Ben and Jack.”

Gunnedah lost its first game of the season against Narrabri while the Blue haven’t played a game yet.
