Making cash, cuts and bruises

30 Oct, 2009 09:53 PM
THREE Aussie bull riders have made the cut to take on the planet’s toughest athletes in the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Held over two weekends (Oct 30 - Nov 1 and Nov 5-8), the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals will take place at the Thomas & Mack Centre on the University of Las Vegas campus.

2008 PBR Australia champion Pete Farley, 2007 PBR Australia champion Ben Jones and the man who sits second on the PBR Australia standings, David Kennedy will be amongst the elite group of contenders fighting for a slice of the massive finals prize pool and a shot at pocketing the one million dollar PBR World Champion’s bonus.

Farley and Jones have qualified for the World Finals due to their 2009 PBR earnings placing them in positions 34 and 40 respectively on the World Qualifier Standings. Farley has ridden in the prestigious Built Ford Tough Series for most of the year, while Jones has taken the hard road, working his way up through the Challenger Series and finally cracking the top 40 at the eleventh hour.

David Kennedy will compete in the World Finals courtesy of a four year old rule that sees the rider leading the standings in Australia, Canada, Brazil and Mexico fly to the US to join the top 40 riders in the first weekend of competition. Kennedy must win enough prize money on the first weekend of the finals to put him above the lowest ranked rider in the top 40 to continue on to the second weekend. With the huge prize money on offer, two high-scoring rides could be enough for Kennedy to get the job done and secure a second week in Vegas.

Pete Farley and David Kennedy will both return home from Las Vegas, battle hardened and ready to attack the Bundaberg Rum PBR National Finals in Tamworth on November 27 and 28.
