MOREE continued its successful run in its maiden season in the VB Country Plate with a two-wicket win over Walgett yesterday.
But it wasn’t all plain
sailing.
The home side was asked to field first at Harbord Oval but young left-arm opening bowler Mitch Harris made sure Moree was on top from the early stages.
He took some early scalps and then came back to finish the job with 5-17, his figures at the end.
He had support from Darrel Smith with 3-15 and Nathan Holland bagged 2-32.
Walgett opener Neil Newton did his best to push his side’s cause.
He carried his bat and finished with 70 not out while Grant Walford was next best with 61.
But they were the only batsmen to make much of a mark and the innings was concluded after 30 overs.
Darren Smith showed his batting credentials for Moree in the chase with a game-high 82.
Nathan Holland was next best with 27, Grant Partridge made 13 and Tom Ryan 11 not out as Moree limped to a win with plenty of overs but only two wickets to spare.
“They’ve got a bit of confidence and they’re all keen,” Moree district president Glen Holland said.
“We’ve struggled to beat Glen Innes and now struggled to beat Walgett.
“We were cruising at 6-147 but blew it a bit.
“But things are going pretty well for us so far this year.”
Moree will play Manilla on November 15 after it walked through to the third round.
Walcha forfeited its scheduled clash with Manilla at Manilla citing a lack of players.
