HILLVUE Public eased its way to another primary girls’ basketball regional title in Tamworth yesterday and now look forward to taking on the rest of the state.
The Tamworth side was too strong for Inverell’s Ross Hill Public in a 144-15 win at the Tamworth Thunderdome.
Rheannon Berry led the scoring for Hillvue with 36 points, followed by Abby Sampson with 28 and Tshinta Knox with 24, but all of Hillvue’s seven players scored more than 10 points.
For Ross Hill Larissa Baldwin scored seven and Olivia Turner six.
Hillvue had beaten Quirindi Public and Manilla Central at the Tamworth area gala day to qualify for the regional decider.
It will now face coastal opposition in the first inter-regional round in the next game.
Ross Hill had a busy sporting day. Their girls netball side were also in Tamworth taking on South Tamworth, also in the regional final.
That was played before the basketball with South Tamworth victorious 18-7.
They got away to a good start leading 12-3 at half-time.
“I thought our timing was great down the court, and we had two girls step up and play a lot better than I’ve seen them play,” South coach Kerry Floyd said of Sarah Collison and Sofie Langenbaker.
She also made particular mention of Brandy Carmichael, Yolanda Handsaker, Natalie Willis, Bronte Harris, who were backing up after competing at the State Carnival this week.
South had defeated Oxley Vale 18-4, Coonamble 24-7 and Gunnedah South 23-4 on their way to the regional title.
They now await the winner of the clash between Wauchope and Narranga (Coffs), who they met last year in the round of 16, for their next opponents.
