WAS Roshani ripped off? That’s the question a number of concerned Leader readers were asking after Tamworth’s Idol Roshani was voted off the Channel Ten series on Monday night.
The Leader was inundated with calls from people concerned their inability to get through on the busy phone lines either by text or to the 1902 5555 phone number may have resulted in Roshani’s departure.
A disgruntled viewer who sent a “Roshani” text at 7.41pm told The Leader a minute later, at 7.42pm, he received a text back from the 191010 number which said: “The service you have requested is not currently available. Please try again later. You have not been charged.”
Yesterday at 9.19am he received another text from the 191010 number which said (sic) “IDOL: Tks for ur vote last night. Roshani left the show.”
Other text voters reported not getting the confirmation text – usually received immediately after a vote – until Tuesday morning.
“I immediately assumed there was a problem with my vote so I voted again but still didn’t receive confirmation. That suggests to me my vote wasn’t recorded,” said another disgruntled fan.
When the question about voting lines was put to a Channel Ten spokesperson yesterday she said there had been no technical problems with the Idol voting system.
“All votes received by Be.interactive prior to 8pm were processed.
“All necessary information regarding the Idol voting system is accessible on the Idol website in the Terms and Conditions and a user-friendly guide to the new system,” she said.
This is not the first time a question had been posed about the legitimacy of the Idol voting process.
When 2008 contestant Brooke Addamo was ousted unexpectedly from the show earlier this season her father and a number of others reported difficulties voting for her number which they said at the time had been unavailable or “engaged”.
