MORE than 400 people were entertained by locally and internationally acclaimed talent at an afternoon concert yesterday.
Locals piled into the Tamworth Town Hall where world renowned artist Paul Griffith and his 17-piece orchestra delivered more than three hours of entertainment with some timeless classics.
Regional songbirds Gabriela Bonomo, Nicole Geddes and Tenille Kearney appeared with the orchestra and The John Muller Jazz All Stars accompanied Deniese Morrison, Matt O’Leary, Grant Atkins, Huntley Mitchell, Abbey Walsh and Cameron Young for their solos.
The event marked the end to more than 16 months of Serendipity committee fundraising for the Tamworth Oncology Unit with a community contributed goal of more than $400,000 reached.
Committee president Robyn Barton told The Leader she was pleased with the turn out on the afternoon.
“The serendipity committee has organised this with John Muller and the Jazz All Stars,” she said.
“More than 400 tickets were sold and it was a fantastic concert which went for more than three hours.
“It’s the end of fundraising for the oncology unit that I’m aware of.
“We’ve been doing this since the interest meeting was held in February last year.
“The whole community came on board. It was well received and people were willing to give.
“We’re going out with a big bang.”
Mrs Barton said she was proud that Mr Griffith took time out to perform in the city.
“It was great for him to come here. He’ll be heading to New York in September and he also joins various cruise ships and performs,” she said.
