WHILE coming to school is a reward on its own for Tamworth teacher Sarah Briggs, this week she was also awarded statewide recognition for her hard work.
Mrs Briggs, a teacher at Westdale Public School, was a recipient of the NEITA Inspirational Teaching State and Territory Awards for her hard work in student support programs.
She has developed and implemented the school’s leadership program, which encourages senior students to be actively involved in leadership experiences, from the classroom to the community.
A passionate gardener, she initiated the Westdale Gardening Club, which has allowed students to learn about sustainability and the environment.
She’s also the team leader of a literary project at the school, which focuses on boys’ education.
But Mrs Briggs, who was overwhelmed to receive the award, said she just enjoyed coming to school and working with her students.
“It’s just so much fun to come to school. I love what I do,” she said.
“I’m very honoured to receive the award, especially while at Westdale school.
“I have always wanted a career that made a positive impact on a person’s life and teaching makes this possible.
“At the end of each school year, I wonder if I will form as strong a bond with the students in my next class. I always do.
“I enjoy getting to know my students – their personalities, their dreams and their stories – as we embark on a learning journey together.
“I love ‘those moments’ when they achieve their goals, whether it be overcoming their fear of public speaking or beating their time when completing their times-tables grid.”
