ON THE day that Aussie rockers Cold Chisel were all but selling out in Tamworth, Irish country music diva Mary Duff was the toast of the city’s civic set.
The Emerald Isle princess was given the royal treatment – but she’s still got a hard slog ahead of her on the music track.
Duff is on a 25-date Down Under tour and a punishing tour schedule.
Promoter Terry Gordon said a week into the tour, things were looking good, with Gold Coast and Queensland concerts all good houses and Mary’s support act, 12-year-old Straalen McCallum, a big hit with the crowds.
By the time the tour winds up, Mary, who is promoting her new Voice of an Angel CD, might be fortunate to have any voice at all, with barely a day off in between shows, from July 28 to August 26.
Both Terry and Mary were thrilled with their warm welcome to the city, being feted by Tamworth Regional Council deputy mayor Russell Webb and several local music industry identities.
“Mary had a white wine and I had a red and we both said we could have settled in and had a few more, but work comes first,” Terry said.
