Tamworth pools the cool spots to be

20 Nov, 2009 07:39 PM
IF YOU thought the pool was the place to be the past week, you would be right.

Attendance figures at all six Tamworth Regional Council pools have gone through the roof and hit the high figures just like the temperatures.

In the six days from Saturday to Thursday night, the total attendance was 9364 people – more than three times the figure for the same period last year.

And rightly so.

Tamworth was sitting sweaty on 40.5 degrees at 5.30pm yesterday, though authorities tried to tell us it only “felt” like 37 degrees when accounting for wind chill.

Spare a thought for our neighbours in Gunnedah, who were sweltering. Temperatures there were above 40 at 2pm and only climbed higher as the afternoon wore on.

Today is expected to reach 42 degrees with a minimum of 23 degrees.

Possible thunderstorms are forecast for tomorrow and Monday.
