Tamworth food and wine guide released

28 Aug, 2008 08:55 AM
WINE and food producers gathered at Kitty Crawford Estate, Dungowan, yesterday to celebrate the launch of Tourism Tamworth’s first food and wine guide.

Food and Wine in the Tamworth Region will help promote the region’s spoils to both residents and visitors to the area, catering to a new breed of traveller.

Southern New England Vignerons Association secretary Norm Maher thanked Tamworth Regional Council and Tamworth Tourism for their support in producing the food and wine guide.

“The Tamworth area is the gateway to the New England Australia wine region and this publication will assist greatly in promoting the new wine Region and culinary tourism,” Mr Maher said.

“It’s just a fabulous opportunity for wine and food producers to showcase what visitors can expect. Tourism NSW is promoting travel throughout NSW with food and wine outlets heavily influencing trip destinations and as a region we need to align ourselves with this activity.”

Earlier this year regional food and wine producers showcased their produce and launched Australia’s newest wine region, New England Australia, at Parliament House. More than 260 food and wine industry guests sampled their way through the area’s wine, pasta, pork, cheese, milk, lamb, fruit, trout, honey, coffee and olive products.

The next major regional wine event is the 4th New England Regional Wine Show in Glen Innes in mid October.

Congratulations to all concerned with putting Tamworth region's wonderful food & wine on the map! I enjoyed a 2004 Ironbark Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot just yesterday with a colleague, who was astonished at just how good these wines are. Melville Hill are also consistently producing first class wines. Well done all.
