Syringe threat: Staff held up at Gunnedah Hospital

POLICE have arrested a man after an he allegedly used a syringe to hold up staff at Gunnedah Hospital on Monday.

Police arrested 37-year-old Mark Turner, yesterday afternoon after a vehicle pursuit on the Oxley Highway.

They allege Turner entered the hospital Emergency Department, seeking treatment for a throat infection.

Whilst armed with a syringe he is alleged to have grabbed a nurse by the arm and walked her into a treatment room where he also threatened a doctor.

The man allegedly ordered the nurse to open a drug cabinet and removed numerous ampoules of drugs before leaving.

He was arrested about four hours later in a Silver Ford Sedan.

He was charged with aggravated armed robbery and steal from person.

He will appear in Tamworth Local Court today.
