MORE than 2230 people have now joined a Facebook group supporting Nancy and Col Small since the RSPCA removed eight koalas from their Waterways Wildlife Park during a surprise raid last Wednesday.
Members have left hundreds of messages of support and more than 140 photos of themselves and loved ones at the park.
They are also are using the site as a tool to alert other users to media articles, websites and avenues through which they can express themselves.
It is understood that dozens of Gunnedah residents have begun tying red ribbons to their cars as a symbol of support for the wildlife carers.
A collection tin has been placed at the Attunga Store, to raise money to support the couple and the park.
A fund to support the park will be launched today by Gunnedah Shire Council.
The council will kickstart the fund with a $5000 donation.
It is hoped that the outpouring of support shown to Colin and Nancy will continue with donations to the fund.
All monies will go directly to Waterways Wildlife Park to help with future operations and improvements.
Gunnedah mayor Adam Marshall urged the community to rally behind the wildlife carers.
“Support Nancy and Col Small and the Waterways Park just as they have supported our community for almost three decades,” he said.
“Support this great asset in our community and help ensure the tremendous work that Nancy and Col have done by caring for injured and orphaned wildlife continues long into the future.”
Donations can be made at Gunnedah Shire Council’s administration building (Elgin St), Gunnedah Visitor Information Centre, Namoi Valley Independent, 2MO/2GGG Radio Station and the Greater Newcastle Building Society (where the account is held).
Those wishing to make direct deposits may also donate into the account.
