OFF the set of movie Superman Returns, Igor the goat is really just like any other wether, having to pay his way with his day job as resident lawn mower for the Currabubula Hotel.
While he had to leave the limelight and schmoozing with the stars behind, Igor still lives the dream when tourists drop past the local watering hole for their brush with stardom, taking his photo home along with the tale of the goat that got caught in the spotlight.
“We had a bus full of hairdressers pull in here on their way to Sydney and they all got out their cameras and had photos with him,” hotel and Igor owner Stuart Scott said.
The brown and white goat fell into the role in the opening scenes of the movie filmed in 2005 at a nearby Breeza property, “Superman’s family farm”. The prop buyers who were frequenting the pub at the time spotted him grazing out back. They had been told to find a goat for the part and didn’t know where to start the hunt for the perfect specimen.
The film was nominated for an Oscar, won eight awards and 21 nominations and starred big names such as Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, James Marsden, Parker Posey, Marlon Brando, Kal Penn and more.
Mr Scott has had Igor in his life for the past four years and said the six-year-old had a good reputation with the pub-goers.
Igor’s mid-life crisis might soon occur when the Scotts sell the pub and try to head to the coast so Mr Scott can “tinker with his trawler” down there.
