TAMWORTH’S central business district could have another entertainment venue if a recommendation before the regional council is approved at tonight’s meeting.
Before the council is an application for a proposed entertainment and educational facility at 324 Peel St, above a takeaway noodle outlet.
In a report in the meeting’s business paper, senior development assessment planner, Emma Briggs said the recommendation’s assessment of the application, particularly the component relating to The Studio, presented a number of challenges arising from the potential for the proposed licensed premises to generate anti-social behaviour and the associated public safety risk in the locality.
However, the report said approval of the application was made after careful consideration of information supplied by the applicant, inspection of the premises and the drafting of conditions of consent that reflect strict fire safety, public health and security control requirements.
The entertainment facility – to be known as Singing Vibrations – would be an instrument and vocal performance tuition venue while The Studio would be a live performance theatre with a licence to serve alcohol.
One of the many conditions attached to The Studio would not allow more than 75 persons (including patrons, students and staff) at any time.
Hours of operation of The Studio, being the live performance theatre, would be restricted to Thursday to Saturday, from 6pm to midnight. No alcohol would be served on the premises without the necessary approvals from the relevant authority, currently the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing.
