Soaking rains fall on region (Tamworth, Glen Innes, Barraba, Guyra)

06 Nov, 2009 07:52 PM
GARDENERS and landholders around Tamworth and Glen Innes were celebrating heavy falls of rain that dropped between 30mm and 43mm yesterday.

The rain fell in a series of heavy showers linked to a low pressure cell, and while Tamworth and Glen Innes were celebrating, there were plenty of anecdotal reports of heavy falls in other parts of the region.

By 4.30pm yesterday, Barraba and Guyra had recorded 25mm of rain. Bunnan, just to the west of Scone in the Upper Hunter, had recorded 38mm.

The forecast for Tamworth today and tomorrow is for possible showers and thunderstorms, clearing on Monday or Tuesday.

Across the range, heavy falls had been recorded in the 24-hour period to 5pm yesterday at Bellingen with 146mm; 145mm at Dorrigo and 172mm at Coffs Harbour.

Mt Seaview, which lies between Tamworth and Port Macquarie, recorded 81mm from 9am yesterday morning.
