CONTINUED efforts by the Murrurundi Chamber of Commerce and Upper Hunter Shire Council are being made to attract a general practitioner to Murrurundi to replace Dr William Redmayne, who has served the local community for more than 20 years.
Discussions continue with the Hunter Division of General Practitioners and the Rural Doctors Network. One interested doctor has visited the town and met with representatives. At least two other doctors have expressed interest in the position.
Upper Hunter Shire Council mayor Lee Watts said recent interest in the position was encouraging.
“The combined efforts of the local community and council will be needed to develop a package to recruit the right person,” Cr Watts said.
