AN environmental activist has chained herself to a bulldozer and a group of about 10 others have gathered near Boggabri to protest the clearing of forest for a coal mine.

Northern Inland Council for the Environment spokesperson Carmel Flint has taken the extreme action upon herself to prevent more clearing of the Leard State Forest for the expansion of an open cut coal mine.
The protesters, made up of the council's members and Maules Creek community members, gathered before dawn to start their latest opposition campaign that they say has come about after months of writing to government and lobbying for changes to development applications in the area.
"It's the end of a frustrating process," Ms Flint said.
"I certainly think the community of the Gunnedah basin feels as if the government has abandoned them."
Police were notified of the group's presence at the site and arrests could be made if it is found they are trespassing.
