THE Warialda Standard has a new lease on life, with Rachel Sherman taking over operations in the town.
Mrs Sherman bought the newspaper in June and has since released three editions of it.
She was previously a journalist with 2NZ in Inverell, and worked for former National NSW senator Sandy McDonald in Tamworth for six years.
“I moved back to Warialda a year ago, and the opportunity to purchase the business came up earlier in the year,” Mrs Sherman said.
Mrs Sherman said there had been a number of changes made to the paper.
“There are a lot more photos, and I’m trying to make it a colour paper as often as I can,” she said.
Mrs Sherman said she was looking forward to making further changes to improve The Standard.
“I just want to get out in the community, and make The Standard a more community-focused paper,” she said.
“There may be less content in the paper than there was in the past, but it’s more relevant to Warialda people.”
Relationships with Gwydir Shire Council have also improved, with the council agreeing to advertise with the paper. The council had stopped running advertisements in the council with the previous owner.
“I’ve complied with their requests for advertising, and I’m happy to do that,” she said.
