Opposition plans exploration talks

12 Aug, 2011 09:07 AM
THE NSW Opposition is planning to establish a coal seam gas taskforce to consult with communities worried about the rapid expansion of the industry.

The taskforce will include five members: Opposition spokesman for resources Steve Whan; Opposition spokesman for the environment and member for Keira, Ryan Park; member for Cessnock Clayton Barr; and member for Shellharbour Anna Watson.

Mr Foley said the decision to form the taskforce was in response to community concern to exploration and a perception the O’Farrell government was not listening to their concerns.

“If the O’Farrell government is not going to consult with local communities over coal seam gas exploration and mining, the NSW Opposition will do it for them,” Mr Foley said.

The taskforce plans to visit the Illawarra and the Hunter Valley first.

The NSW parliamentary opposition were the cause of this problem across NSW.

They should have seen to that rather than trying to feather their nests before their inevitable removal from government.

What a lot of hypocrites!

Who was the opposition member that missed selection to the committee.

No need for expensive task forces at taxpayer’s expense. Give the farmers the power to decide for themselves; after all it is their property. Let the farmers run their own exploration if they want and let them sell the gas to gas companies if they want. When all said and done they love their own land and will look after if far better that the big mining companies who are only after a quick buck.
