WARRICK Jordan faced court in Narrabri yesterday after he hung suspended from a coal seam gas rig for 16 hours in July as part of a protest.
Jordan was protesting against the Pilliga being turned into a gas field by Eastern Star Gas.
He is facing five charges: three related to trespassing, one to malicious damage – as the equipment he was suspended from could not be used while he was on it – and one related to endangering another’s life by climbing on a building or structure.
Jordan said he pleaded not guilty to all charges and the case was only in court for a mention.
About 20 people from Coonabarabran went to the court to support him.
“It’s humbling to have such strong support from local conservationists and farmers,” Jordan said.
“I didn’t undertake the peaceful protest in July lightly.
“The Pilliga is one of Australia’s most significant natural areas, and to see it and the surrounding country damaged by a massive coal seam gas project would be a crying shame.”
Jordan is due to re-appear in court on September 27.
