Nine councillors meet tonight to wind up

9/09/2008 9:41:00 AM
ELECTED members of the Tamworth Regional Council will meet tonight for a short extraordinary meeting to finalise some important decision on tenders for infrastructure projects.

This will be the last official function of the nine councillors elected to the council four years ago when four shires and one city council were merged to form the Tamworth Regional Council.

Of key importance will be the determining – in closed meeting – of the council’s approval to accept a tender for the construction of gravity sewer lines for the Hills Plain trunk sewer mains.

More than 3.2 kilometres of sewer line will be installed as part of the project.

Councillors will also be asked to give the council authorisation for the payment of compensation for the acquisition of a six metre wide easement over a property to allow for the construction of the trunk sewer mains.

This vote will also be held in the confidential enclosure of the meeting.

Finalising the business of the evening will be a recommendation to approve tenders sought for cleaning of various council properties. These will include Ray Walsh House, Parry House, the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre, the South Tamworth and Tamworth Library/Gallery, the Lockheed St depot and several other council owned properties.

Meanwhile time is running out for anyone intending to lodge a pre-poll vote for Saturday’s local government elections. Pre-polling centres close at 6pm on Friday afternoon.

The Tamworth Regional Council returning officer’s Office at 15 Kable Ave and is open from Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 5.pm; and will be open from 8.30am to 6pm on Friday.
