MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay has asked for an immediate review into plans for a road upgrade at Bolivia Hill after the death of a motorcyclist on Tuesday morning.
A 21-year-old Armidale man died after his motorcycle hit a rock wall 15 minutes south of Tenterfield at 11.30am.
Police could not release the name of the man yesterday.
New England Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Laurie Cattell said investigations were continuing.
From early indications and investigations it appears that speed may have been a contributing
factor.
Mr Torbay said he was saddened that another person had died on roads in the Northern Tablelands.
“While the full circumstances surrounding this fatal accident are something for investigators to uncover, I was dismayed that yet another life has been lost on this stretch of road,” Mr Torbay said.
“Major upgrades to the Bolivia Hill section of the highway have been discussed for years, yet the Roads and Traffic Authority have stopped short of prioritising the work.
“I have written to the Minister for Roads yet again, seeking an immediate review of plans for this section of road.
“I have asked that this work be prioritised as a matter of urgency to make the road safer for all users.”
