Major North West roads reopened

08 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
MAJOR roads have been reopened across the North West as floodwater recedes.

The Gwydir Highway between Moree and Warialda was reopened yesterday morning but the Gwydir Bridge was still closed in both directions at Gravesend.

The Carnarvon Highway was still closed between Garah and Mungindi.

As of yesterday afternoon, the Bruxner Highway between Yetman and Boggabilla was still closed with no indication from the Roads and Traffic Authority on when it would be reopened.

Crews were still making repairs to the New England Highway between Tamworth and Glen Innes with widespread pothole damage still being reported by motorists.

Traffic was reduced to one lane on the Waterfall Way between Dorrigo Mountain and Bellingen due to widespread flood damage.

The Kamilaroi Highway remained closed between Narrabri and Burren Junction and heavy vehicle restrictions were still in place on the Newell Highway between Narrabri and Boggabilla.

Loads more than 3.5m wide or weighing more than 80 tonnes must not travel on or west of the Newell Highway until further notice.

The New England Highway and Pacific Highway remain open.
