OXLEY High School student Lucinda Vivers has achieved at the NSW Vocational Education and Training in Schools Worldskills competition, held at Ryde last week.
The 17-year-old won the gold medal in the commercial cookery section.
Lucinda undertakes VET training in commercial cookery at TAFE NSW New England Institute’s Tamworth campus as part of her higher school certificate.
Lucinda is the first gold medal winner from the New England and North West region.
Lucinda prepared, cooked and presented a three-course meal on each day of the two-day competition.
Her work was judged by TAFE teachers, high school VET teachers and industry judges.
Tamworth TAFE head teacher of tourism and hospital Barry Pawsey said winning the competition was an excellent achievement.
“Lucinda is an outstanding student. She sacrificed 15 days of her recent school holidays to come to the TAFE to extend her expertise and hone her skills in preparation for this week’s state level competition,” he said.
Lucinda will now compete in the national competition held at Brisbane in May.
