Local roads damaged

06 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
ROAD damage as a result of the recent bad weather and floods resulted in a number of roads remaining closed or alternate traffic conditions being in place yesterday.

The New England Highway was operating under alternating traffic conditions at Kootingal.

For those heading to the coast, the road surface of Waterfall Way between Dorrigo Mountain and Bellingen was severely damaged as a result of flooding and had only one lane open to traffic, with give-way signs in place yesterday.

Significant road damage was also reported to the New England Highway between Tamworth and Glen Innes.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution.

The Gwydir River bridge on the Gwydir Highway at Gravesend remained closed in both directions yesterday afternoon and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
