IT’S been a successful weekend, but the Tamworth Regional Super Show has been held at the Tamworth Showground for the last time.
The show is to move to the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre for its 140th year in 2011.
Tamworth Pastoral and Agricultural Association president John Rodd said the annual show definitely won’t be at the showground next year, as part of the grounds have already been sold.
“These buildings are all getting older and they won’t be up to it next year,” he said.
Thousands of people made their way to the historic grounds, with the rodeo on Saturday night a drawcard for many people
“There was a very big crowd on Saturday, even though Friday was quiet,” Mr Rodd said.
The annual event started on Friday with junior judging, kids entertainment, and horse ball and tent pegging in the indoor arena.
Saturday was the main day, with livestock judging, dog trials, mini trotters and fireworks.
Sideshow alley was again very popular, with many families attending the show for the rides.
There was also a ute show and workouts on Saturday.
“The ute show lacked the numbers of last year, because a few people haven’t been able to make it,” Mr Rodd said.
In 2011, there will be more focus on the Tamworth event being a regional show.
Organisers hope to also use the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.
Mr Rodd said the show would be different because it won’t be based around one ring like most country shows.
“It’ll be different but there would be a lot more interest with the indoor arena and TRECC will be used as a pavilion,” Mr Rodd said.
The show ended yesterday with horse events, team penning, the animal nursery and the dog high jump.
