Inspiration , motivation for regions students

TAMWORTH youth had their chance to be heard internationally yesterday when two delegates from United Nations Youth visited Tamworth High School and the Youthie.

University students Melanie Poole and Elizabeth Shaw stopped by to deliver words of inspiration and motivation to the students and ask their opinions on some vital topics.

“We spoke to the kids at Tamworth High School and we were really impressed of how incredibly civic minded and full of ideas they were,” Ms Poole said.

“They were really inspiring and politically engaged especially with environmental issues.

“They were really feeling the effects of climate change and had fantastic ideas on long-term measures with a focus on the short term.”

Ms Shaw said the purpose of their visit was to encourage the students to be active in the community and to help make a difference.

“We want them to participate in this and become more active,” she said.

“We have this amazing opportunity to travel Australia and talk to them because we’re the type of people to put our hands up for opportunities.

“It’s not just about putting your hand up but creating opportunities for yourself and to think globally and act locally.”

Ms Shaw and Ms Poole will continue travelling around the country and gathering ideas from students in the lead up to United Nationals General Assembly in September when they will take these ideas to New York and will be fully accredited members of the Australian

delegation.
