Former local committed for trial over police killing

10 Feb, 2010 02:46 PM
THE former Tamworth resident accused of killing an off-duty Northern Territory police officer will face a committal hearing in May.

Michael Simon Martyn is charged with the manslaughter of Sergeant Brett Meredith.

Sergeant Meredith was allegedly king-hit by Martyn at a Katherine Night Club on New Year's Day.

Martyn will face a five-day committal hearing in Katherine in May.

The case was adjourned for mention on February 19.

At an appearance in Darwin Magistrate's Court on Wednesday he was granted a variation of bail.

He will now have to report to police four times a week instead of every day.

Martyn lived and worked in Tamworth between 1998 and 2001.
