Flood warning for Narrabri

06 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
A MAJOR flood warning was issued for Narrabri last night.

The SES anticipated the Namoi River would rise to a predicted peak of 6.3 metres last night or early this morning.

Minor flooding was expected.

An SES spokesman said it was likely water would re-enter the Big Sky Caravan Park, Wee Waa Rd and Violet St bridge.

"Other local roads may also be impacted," he said.

Wee Waa residents, who had an evacuation notice rescinded by the SES on Saturday, were preparing to become further isolated by tonight.

All access roads to the town were reported by the SES to be impassable yesterday and the airport was said to be isolated.

The town's levee bank was reportedly surrounded.

Later today the Namoi River at Bugilbone is predicted to reach 8.5m. An SES spokesman said the result would be a number of local roads being inundated by water and the possible isolation of a number of rural properties.
