THUNDERSTORMS and isolated showers across the New England and North West region are predicted for the rest of the week with the Bureau of Meteorology warning flood-affected areas could be hit again in the coming days.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for areas including Tamworth, Armidale, Glen Innes and Inverell late yesterday, with damaging winds, flash flooding and heavy rainfall anticipated.
Moree Bureau of Meteorology officer Michael Glasson said this was a sign of things to come for the rest of the week with showers expected for parts of the North West until the weekend.
"It could worsen the situation as our catchments are saturated and we have to be aware that flooding could occur again," Mr Glasson said. "Our dams are almost full or are already full so any sort of rainfall, moderate to heavy will mostly turn into run-off.
"We're not out of the woods yet, that's for sure."
Mr Glasson said unsettled weather would plague the region for the rest of the week due to a low-pressure trough across north-east NSW.
He said temperatures would be in the mid-20s in Tamworth, Armidale and Inverell with Moree sitting in the high-20s for the rest of the week.
Storms are expected for Tamworth and Moree today.
"There are no big changes to temperatures but it will be a couple of degrees cooler," he said.
"There's a chance of storms and a shower or two each day and there may be a few showers on Saturday. Saturday should be a wet day."
