Council orders building demolition (Glen Innes)

10 Dec, 2009 09:48 PM
GLEN Innes Severn Council has ordered the demolition of two buildings in Grey St after a fire destroyed the buildings a month ago.

The demolition notice was given due to concerns for the safety of the public and future occupants of the buildings.

“The buildings are so dilapidated that they are a danger to the safety of occupants and persons entering the property,” development and environmental services director Graham Price said.

“They are also prejudicial to the surrounding neighbourhood.

“For these reasons, council deems this to be an emergency order.”

A structural engineer’s report submitted to the council recommended the demolition in November.

“It was agreed that the buildings would have to be demolished, because of the degree of structural damage to the buildings,” Mr Price said.

The owner of the buildings, which housed four local businesses, has 28 days to demolish them.
