AUSTRALIA Post celebrated 169 years of service to Tamworth on Saturday.
Staff and former employees joined locals at the Taminda mail sorting centre for an open day to celebrate the special milestone.
The milestone is a part of the postal service’s nationwide 200th birthday celebrations.
Guests were shown through the sorting facility and viewed demonstrations of the sorting process and the machinery used.
Staff with more than three decades of service to Australia Post were also recognised on the day.
Sorting centre operations manager Phil Draper told The Leader he was pleased with the public attendance on the day, with more than 200 lining up to tour the
building.
“It went off extremely well,” Mr Draper said.
“The feedback from the visitors was very positive and they were impressed with our operations.
“We took them around the sorting centre and ran a few machines for them, so they could get an idea of how things were done.”
He was pleased to be a part of the celebrations and to see employees recognised for their work.
“(Member for Tamworth) Peter Draper presented 10 long-service awards to people who had in excess of 30 years’ service, this ranged from 31 years to 45,” he said.
“Australia Post has enjoyed 200 years of uninterrupted service and I’m extremely proud to be a part of that.”
