Bat bus back but please behave

A ONE-OFF return performance of the Tamworth and District Liquor Accord’s Bat Bus will allow Anzac Day revellers a safe and reliable means of getting home on Friday night.

The Bat Bus will pick up passengers at CBD hotels and clubs between 6pm and 11pm.

Tamworth and District Liquor Accord chairman Roger Rumble said with Anzac Day falling on a Friday, operators of licensed premises in Tamworth expected a busy day and evening.

“Because it is traditional for patrons to go to hotels and clubs earlier on Anzac Day, the Accord has decided to bring the operating hours of the Bat Bus forward so the first run will start at 6pm,” Mr Rumble said.

“In this way, we hope to get people out of the CBD at the end of what is often a very big day.”

Liquor accord members pointed out that Anzac Day patrons in licensed premises would not be treated differently from other times of the year.

“The Accord understands that Anzac Day is a special day for all Australians, but that doesn’t mean that responsible service of alcohol standards will be lowered,” Mr Rumble said.

“Licensees will be monitoring intoxication levels in their premises and refusing service to anyone deemed to be intoxicated.

“Licensees hope that patrons enjoy themselves on Anzac Day, socialising with friends and even taking part in the odd game of two-up.”
