Antiques Fair gets better with age

31 Jul, 2010 04:00 AM
LIKE a good wine, the Tamworth Antique and Collectables Fair keeps getting better, developing more character.

After 25 years, collectors know it as a must-see exhibition, and the exhibitors know what looks good and what suits Tamworth tastes.

A “short” stroll through Tamworth Town Hall for a few hours offers a unique combination of wonder, beauty and nostalgia, plus a few surprises.

If not to buy or collect, have a wander through for inspiration or a short history lesson.

In Kinnear’s area, there’s a quintessential piece of Australiana, a cedar and gum miner’s couch, circa 1850, from South Australia.

A beautiful piece of furniture not found anywhere else in the world.

Or admire the 9ft high solicitors bookcase imported from a barrister’s office in Paris. It’s beautiful, astounding, but probably won’t fit in every living room.

The deep mahogany book shelves and cabinets – to appeal to bibliophiles everywhere – are sure to create a lot of interest, but there is plenty to please everyone, from jewellery and bone-handled cutlery through to a large selection of fine crockery and collectable china.
