SECURE airports and prepared emergency services was the aim of counter-terrorism training held at regional airports this week.
The week-long training run ended at Tamworth Regional Airport yesterday.
Members of emergency services and community stakeholders in the city attended the event.
The training was co-ordinated by the NSW Police Force Counter-Terrorism and Special Tactics Command.
Counter-Terrorism Response team member Peter Ray said he was pleased with the turn-out at the Tamworth information session.
He said the group worked to identify potential threats in the unlikely event of a terrorist attack.
“It went well, we had a good turn-out,” he said.
“We looked at the current environment, the threat in the environment and the current intelligence.
“We looked at behaviour issues and identifying suspicious behaviour, transport services and various security measures.
“Regional airports could be used by people to plan terrorist attacks, or transport people or things to the bigger areas.
“The threat at regional airports is very low. They’re not the targets, but the larger cities are.”
Acting Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Capability Support Unit Inspector Brenton Charlton said the program was aimed at enhancing the training that was conducted at regional airports last year.
