Well done to everyone nominated for Citizen of the Year award

Tamworth’s Shirley Burke expresses her gratitude for being named Tamworth’s Australia Day Citizen of the Year

I WISH to express my gratitude to one and all on receiving the honour of being awarded the Tamworth Citizen of the Year on Australia Day.

It is with great humility that I accept this wonderful award, as I feel many people have done so much more for Tamworth than myself, particularly the other

finalists.

When I heard the accomplishments of the other finalists read, I totally relaxed and was ready to congratulate one of them!

Well done to all.

I would like to thank our mayor, Col Murray, for his graciousness in presenting the award and to all other members of Tamworth Regional Council.

My thanks also to the Australia Day committee for their work and input into this award.

So many civic-minded people give their time and talents for the betterment of Tamworth.

Many people have given me great support over the years in the organisations for which I work.

If it wasn’t for their great support I would not be able to do the work I do for the community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of these wonderful volunteers.

Last but not least, I need to thank my very supportive family.

Hal and our children and their families were there with me on Australia Day and this made the day so special.

Again my thanks to all who were involved with Australia Day.

I hope 2012 is a happy year for you all.
